After months of waiting the John Polzin Field was finally completed, just in time for Deerfield to host its first three home games of the season.
The first event held on the field was Deerfield’s “Second-Annual Childhood Cancer Awareness” football game on Friday, september 15th. The Deerfield Demons faced Cambria-Friesland Hilltoppers in a conference match. The Demons taking an early 8-0 lead. Although they battled hard, Deerfield wasn’t able to hold the advantage and lost 38-20. Four days later, the Cambridge-Deerfield United (CDU) varsity soccer team took on Dodgeland. Tuesday night’s competition was evenly matched as both teams fought to gain the advantage over the other. After a lengthy battle, off a pass from Andrew Nebel, number 26, junior Payton Orlando-Baldauf rocketed the ball into the back of the net, scoring Deerfield’s only goal. Fortunately, one was enough as CDU emerged victorious in a 1-0 win. CDU seniors were honored as the soccer team returned to the field on Thursday, September 21, to face Lakeside Lutheran. Roughly 10 minutes into the game, junior Wills Manning got a shot past the goalie putting Deerfield on the board. Throughout the next eighty minutes of play, the two evenly matched teams fought hard to put the ball in the net. However, in an almost deja vu ending, Deerfield held on to the win, 1-0. |
