Italy
Written by Molly fedkenheuer
The European country Italy, with a long Mediterranean coastline, has not only left a powerful mark on history, but is also one big tourism spot. Its capital, Rome, is home to landmark art and ancient ruins. Some ancient ruins consist of the Arch of Constantine, the Arch of Septimius Severus, and the Atrium Vestae.
Another attraction of Italy is their cuisine. History dates back to the late 1800’s when Italy consisted of separate republics, each with different culinary customs. Generations of recipes have been passed down to create the diverse Italian cuisine they have today. Although the world knows Italy for pizza, pasta, and tomato sauce, their regions were known for different dishes and key ingredients. The north used butter, pork fat in the center of the country, and olive oil in the south. Rice and Polenta were staple dishes in the north and pasta was the most popular in the south. However, during the late 1800’s, pizza and pasta became popular in the north.
